Charles Kuralt once said, "Thanks to the interstate highway system, it is now possible to travel from coast to coast without seeing anything." But that wasn't for him. The celebrated CBS newsman, who died on the Fourth of July 1997, created a travelogue of America that was delivered from the back roads and byways. His "On the Road" pieces first appeared as segments on the "CBS Evening News" with Walter Cronkite and then on CBS News' "Sunday Morning," which he hosted. Now, "On the Road With Charles Kuralt, Set 1" is available on DVD. The three-disc set features 77 pieces, including visits with Golden Gate Bridge workers, an 80-year-old cook, a 104-year-old man, a bike messenger, the "man who waves at traffic" and a shoe salesman.
