Community, Shrine bands join forces for Sunday concert

The Billings Community Band presents its fall concert, "Lions, Legends and Swing," at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Alberta Bair Theater. The cost is $7, $6 with a coupon from The Gazette.

The volunteer group will be led by Coordinator of Music Education for School District 2 Rob Wells, who replaces Joe Acciani as the band's conductor. The Al Bedoo Dance Band will perform as well.

The community band performs a variety of songs, "The Lion King Soundtrack Highlights," arranged by Calvin Custer; "Ireland: of Legend and Lore," by Robert W. Smith; "Entry of the Gladiators," Julius Fucik, arranged by Harold R. Gore; "Shenandoah," by Frank Ticheli; and "Variations on an American Spiritual," by David R. Holsinger.

The Al Bedoo Dance Band, under the direction of Paul Lechner, performs "But Not for Me," a Gershwin piece arranged by Tom Davis; "Una Mas," arranged by Paul Murtha; "Besame Mucho," arranged by Rick Stitzel; "My Foolish Heart," arranged by Mark Taylor; and "The Blues Walk," arranged by Murtha. Three pieces feature vocalist Rosalie Lynch: "It's Only a Paper Moon," arranged by Jerry Nowak; "Speak Low," by Weill and Nash; and "Skylark," arranged by Jerry Nowak.

The two bands combine to perform a piece written by Joe Acciani, "Contrasts."
