Sisters Amanda Disney, 16, left, Erin Disney, 18, right, and Erika Disney, 16, show off a Billings Senior High School-themed quilt that will be auctioned off Nov. 20 during the school’s Bronc Extravaganza. The Bronc Booster Club’s annual event raises funds for the school’s student organizations.
Billings Senior High School’s Bronc Extravaganza, the Bronc Booster Club’s annual public fundraising event, is slated for Friday, Nov. 20, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., in the school’s large gym. The public is welcome to attend, and there is no admission charge.
The extravaganza is a family event, where the Senior High clubs and organizations pool their talents to offer a wide variety of food, entertainment, games, activities, silent auction and bazaar items, theme baskets, raffles, gift certificates, artwork and more.
“This is an ideal opportunity to support the student organizations of Billings Senior High School; and, most importantly, to showcase the school’s brightest stars — the BSHS students,” said co-chairwoman Shelley Van Atta.
Among the raffle items are a quilt made from Bronc T-shirts donated by Bronc Boosters, students, sponsors, coaches and parents; a black-and-orange Bronc lap quilt; and a Bronc pillow. All three items were quilted by Bronc supporters Gail Kleman, Lucinda Husby and Theresa Kirby. Kleman and Husby made a Bronc quilt last year that was such a popular raffle item that Kirby joined them this year with the hope of raising significant dollars to add to the scholarship coffers of the Bronc Booster Club.
“Truly, the real reason that Lucinda, Theresa and I made this quilt is first and foremost because we love to quilt, and because Senior High and its students, faculty and administration are worth our efforts,” said Kleman. “Dennis Holmes is an awesome principal. He and his staff make every effort to assure that each and every student feels welcome and at home at Senior.”
Senior High alumnus Stan Lynde, the author and illustrator who created the original Bronc logo, agreed to sign a Bronc block for the T-shirt quilt. Kleman hopes that Lynde’s autograph will generate additional interest among alumni.
The most difficult part in making the T-shirt quilt, Kleman said, is getting T-shirts donated from each of the BSHS clubs and organizations.
“Our intent is to make this an all-inclusive quilt, one that represents as many activities at Senior High as possible,” she said.
The Bronc Extravaganza is being co-chaired this year by Bronc Boosters Shelley Van Atta, Vanessa Scoles and Jodi Cockburn. For questions or more information about, or to donate to, the extravaganza, contact Van Atta at lcvanatta@bresnan.net or 652-3273.
