UPDATE 9:35 a.m. :

Two people suffered minor injuries late Thursday when their vehicle went out of control and rolled in the 3100 block of King Avenue West. Police Sgt. Shawn Mayo said the accident happened about 11:45 p.m.

Witnesses told officers they thought the vehicle was speeding when it hit the curb and some large landscaping rocks. The vehicle became airborne, then rolled several times including once over a fire hydrant. The vehicle came to a rest on its top.

The driver was transported to St. Vincent Healthcare with minor injuries. The passenger left the scene but later was transported to St. Vincent by a private vehicle. The passenger was treated for minor injuries. The driver admitted to drinking and charges are pending, Mayo said.

INITIAL REPORT:

One man was taken to a Billings hospital after a one-vehicle wreck on the West End late Thursday.

Billings Police officers said a passenger car was eastbound on the 3100 block of King Avenue West when, at about 11:40 p.m., it jumped the curb on the south side of the street, hit a patch of rocks and appears to have gone airborne. The vehicle came down on the southwest corner of the intersection of King and 31st Street West, crossed 31st, struck a fire hydrant and came to a rest on its top in front of Johnny Carino's restaurant.

Sgt. Matt Brewer said it appears the car was traveling at a high speed when the wreck happened, and a witness said it may have been going as fast as 85 miles an hour.

The car then caught fire, and employees from the restaurant put the flames out.

One person, a male whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance to a Billings hospital. His condition was not immediately available, but police and witnesses said he was walking around right after the wreck.

Police are also searching for a passenger who left the scene after the wreck.

The Billings police and fire departments and American Medical Response responded, and the wreck remains under investigation.
