Two Billings residents are in fair condition after being hurt in a West End accident Thursday afternoon.

A St. Vincent Healthcare spokeswoman said Friday that Matthew Nygard, 19, and Jessica Umphrey, 18, are both in fair condition.

Umphrey was driving a Chevy Lumina west on South Frontage Road when she attempted to turn left onto Zoo Drive. The car collided with an eastbound Chevy Tahoe. Umphrey's passenger, Nygard, was not wearing a seat belt, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper said. Umphrey was ticketed for careless driving. A third passenger, Umphrey's 8-year-old sister, underwent surgery but it was not clear what her injuries were. The girl's name was not released.
