Beginning today, the Billings Police Department will have extra officers on the streets to help deal with the flood of fireworks complaints that come each with the Fourth of July holiday.

Today and Friday, there will be eight additional officers on patrol to respond specifically to fireworks complaints and related issues. On Saturday, 18 extra officers will be on hand.

Billings Police Sgt. Kevin Iffland said a handful of the officers will be in the Castle Rock Park area in the Heights to assist with traffic because of the high amount of traffic during the fireworks show held at the park.

Iffland said there is a zero-tolerance policy towards the use of fireworks within the city limits and that citations, not warning tickets, will be issued.

According to City Code Sec. 14-401, "Except as hereinafter provided, no person shall possess, store, offer for sale, expose for sale, sell at retail, use or explode any fireworks in the City of Billings."
