MISSOULA - A 24-year-old Missoula man who admitted robbing the Missoula Federal Credit Union in January has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison.

Peter M. Thompson pleaded guilty in July to robbery and possession and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced Friday in federal court.

Court records say Thompson entered the credit union Jan. 12 with a rifle, fired a shot into the ceiling and told everyone to get down.

Tellers gave him more than $11,000. Court records say that as Thompson left, he bid a nice day to those in the bank.

A deputy pursued Thompson into Upper Miller Creek, where prosecutors say Thompson's truck went off the road. Court records say Thompson fired a shot. The deputy returned fire and Thompson was shot in the face.
