GREAT FALLS - Searchers late Friday afternoon recovered the body of a 24-year old man from the Missouri River between Cascade and Dearborn.

Search-and-recovery officials said the victim and another man jumped off a cliff Thursday near the Mountain Palace fishing access and may have been shocked by the cold water - about 59 degrees at the time.

Witnesses said one man began to struggle. The other was able to swim to the riverbank, but when he turned around his friend was gone.

The victim's body, submerged in about six feet of water, was found Friday by a river floater about half a mile downstream from where divers were searching.

The Cascade County coroner was called to the scene just before 4 p.m.

An autopsy is planned; and the victim's identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
