West Yellowstone, park mark Earth Day

West Yellowstone School and Yellowstone National Park will host an "Earth Day Yellowstone!" celebration Thursday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event provides opportunity for area school children to learn about Yellowstone's unique resources and the importance of conservation and protection of those resources, park Superintendent Mike Finley said.

The celebration will feature indoor and outdoor educational and informational activities, displays, booths and exhibits about the Yellowstone ecosystem. There will be a special closing ceremony at 1 p.m. with the assistant superintendent and other park staff. Kindergarten through 8th grade students from the surrounding communities (West Yellowstone, Gallatin Gateway, Ennis, Harrison, Amsterdam, Gardiner, Mont., Ashton, Idaho, and Mammoth, Wyo.) have been invited to attend. Because of unpredictable weather, warm clothing and rain gear are advised.

Individuals interested in sponsoring an activity or booth can contact Rangers Ellen Petrick-Underwood (307-344-2253) or Bob Fuhrmann (307-344-2256).
