The Mustangs beat Missoula 8-7 Sunday at Dehler Park to snap a four-game losing streak and a seven-game winless run at home.
THE KEY: Mustangs starter Luca Panerati earned the victory by throwing five innings while allowing three earned runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked just one. Billings was also on the positive end of a big inning as it scored five runs in the second frame to take a 7-2 lead.
THE MUSTANGS ARMS: Third-round pick Donnie Joseph threw two scoreless innings in relief, but was followed by a flat performance by Daniel Corcino. Corcino gave up four runs in the ninth - including a long home run by David Narodowski that made the score 8-7 - before Adian Kummett came in to close the game.
THE MUSTANGS BATS: Yen-Wen Kuo and Humberto Sosa continued their hot hitting. Kuo had three hits and three RBIs while Sosa went 2-for-5. Sosa now has 13 hits in his last 28 at bats. The Mustangs batted around the order in the second inning.
THE QUOTE: "It's a great injection of adrenaline when you get a win, especially when you're coming off a bad outing. To get a win right now means a lot. It's just a matter of time. I have to be more consistent with my pitches and work the inside part of the plate and use my changeup." - Mustangs starting pitcher Luca Panerati.
FROM THE PRESSBOX: This was as important a win as the Mustangs have achieved in a long time. Goin out on a seven-game road trip through Orem and Ogden on a losing note would not have done the team any favors. Panerati kept the ball down in the strike zone and looked sharp throughout. The sticks came to life, which was a good sign. The middle of the Mustangs' order is raking right now.
