Hysham too much for Geraldine, 65-28

HYSHAM - Quarterback Jeff Morales ran for four touchdowns, passed for two and also returned an interception for a score as No. 3 Hysham overwhelmed unranked Geraldine 65-28 Saturday in the first round of the 6-Man state football playoffs.

Morales had scoring runs of 76, 12, 9 and 58 for the Pirates. He also passed 14 yards to Tait Hollowell and 3 yards to E.J. Warren for two more touchdowns. Morales' interception return covered 78 yards.

Hysham also received three short scoring runs by Hollowell.

The Pirates led 39-20 at halftime before pulling away.

Winifred-Roy 46, Jordan 6

WINIFRED - Tel Foran rushed for 242 yards on 12 carries and scored three touchdowns Saturday in No. 5-ranked Winifred-Roy's 46-6 triumph over Jordan in the opening round of the state 6-Man football playoffs.

Foran scored his TDs on runs of 65, 20 and 31 yards. Teammate Joe Econom added scoring jaunts covering 2, 4, 7 and 1 yard.

Winifred-Roy led 24-0 at halftime and added 22 third-quarter points.

It was Jordan's first playoff appearance since 1981.

Denton 58, Terry 26

DENTON - Joel DeVries rushed for 157 yards and had a hand in four touchdowns Saturday as No. 2-ranked Denton downed Terry 58-26 in the first round of the state 6-Man football playoffs.

DeVries rushed for TDs on runs of 46, 50 and 1 yard. He also caught a 54-yard scoring pass from Jordan Lahr and finished with 218 yards of total offense.

Denton rushed for 265 yards and had 401 yards on the day.

Cole Jelinek led the Denton defense with 15 tackles and two interceptions. He returned one of his picks for a 45-yard TD.

Weston Luedtke had 135 yards of total offense for Terry. He scored on a 65-yard run and also caught an 8-yard scoring pass.

Big Sandy 55, Bridger 13

BIG SANDY - Big Sandy scored 22 points in the first quarter en route to a 55-13 win over Bridger Saturday in the first round of the 6-man football playoffs.

The Pioneers' defense produced two scores in the first quarter, as Taylor Ophus had a five-yard blocked punt return and teammate Blake Brumwell had a seven-yard pass interception. Ophus also caught a 20-yard touchdown pass, while Corbin Pearson ran for two Big Sandy scores.

Bridger scored all of its points in the second quarter. Kevin Denney paced the Scouts defense with 22 tackles, while Brock Watson finished with 14 tackles and one quarterback sack.

G.F. Central 43, Custer-Melstone 14

GREAT FALLS - Fourth-ranked Great Falls Central cruised to a 43-14 win over Custer-Melstone in the opening round of the state 6-Man playoffs Saturday.

The Mustangs (9-1) earned their first football playoff victory in 44 years. Central's last playoff game came in the 1965 state Class AA championship game. The Mustangs won the state Class A title in 1962.

Derek Moes and Stefan Hickethier scored twice to lead the Central victory. Hickethier raced 75 yards with the opening kickoff and the Mustangs never trailed thereafter. He added a 21-yard TD run in the second quarter.

Fred Woelkers gained 71 yards on four carries, He scored on a 40-yard romp from scrimmage and threw a four-yard TD pass to Matt Morren.

Morren had 13 tackles to lead the Central defense. Woelkers added eight stops.

Jose Renova had scoring runs or 10 and 20 yards for Custer-Melstone.

North Star 31, West Yellowstone 30

WEST YELLOWSTONE - Kellan Warren scored three touchdowns and rushed for 112 yards to pace North Star past West Yellowstone 31-30 in the first round of the 6-Man football playoffs Saturday.

Warren's third TD of the game put North Star up 31-16 in the third quarter before the Wolverines scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter. A Mark Schulteis 55-yard run pulled his team to within 31-22, but the PAT failed. John Stallings then took back a punt 75 yards and the two-point-kick was good, but West Yellowstone got no closer.

Schulteis ran for 98 yards and Brandon Bagley totaled 99.

Dubois, Idaho, 19, Reed Point-Rapelje 12

LIMA - Dillon Smith scored on three touchdown runs to lead Dubois, Idaho, to a 19-18 win over Reed Point-Rapelje in the first round of the 6-Man playoffs at a neutral site Saturday.

Smith finished with 18 carries for 65 yards.

Kyle Schneidt ran the ball 23 times for 134 yards for the Renegades, who totaled 170 yards on the ground.

The Renegades turned the ball over four times, while Dubois committed one turnover.
